Training day September 2026

 This was particularly well-attended, with 20 students and four instructors.

The Guild of St Clare was also busy, as usual, in the basement of St Mary Moorfields.

Enrollments on the Walsingham Pilgrimage

 

At the beginning of the Latin Mass Society's Walking Pilgrimage to Walsingham, in the Amhurst Field in Ely, we had a ceremony of enrollment into the Society of St Tarcisius, with eight people enrolled or promoted by Fr Thomas Crean OP. They were among more than twenty members of the Society on the pilgrimage, who served the Masses.

The Altar used for the Masses was not ready at the time of th ceremony, so it took place before an icon of Christ painted by the Catholic artist James Gillick, which he brought to the pilgrimage and installed in a special tent for veneration in each of our overnight stops.

Training day in May

Our spring season of training days concluded with a well-attended event, with four instructors and more than a dozen trainees. We will be back in September!

As always the Guild of St Clare will be having a Vestment Mending Day in parallel,

Training in St Mary Moorfields

We had a well-attended event this month, with three members being promoted, in addition to two new members being enrolled. One of the promoted members had been enrolled at the St Catherine's Trust Summer School. 

Training in Haverstock Hill February 2025

On Saturday we met in St Dominic's, Haverstock Hill, the Rosary Shrine, with a dozen students and four instructors. We used four altars -- the shrine has twenty!

Training days for 2025

We are pleased to announce Society of St Tarcisius server training days for early 2025, in London.

We offer training at all levels of experience, for Low, Sung, or High Mass, Benediction or Vespers: whatever people want. 

Those under 16 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, or an adult deputed by them and known to the server.

These days are accompanied by Vestment Mending Days organised by the Guild of St Clare: they sew in the parish hall while we train in the church. All are welcome to the Guild event, at all levels of skill. To learn more about these, see the Guild website.

Training days, April and June 2024

I was so busy in April that I didn't take any photos! Here are some from June, where we didn't have quite so many people.

Training Day, February 2024

We had ten trainees and, since it was the feast of St Blaise, the Blessing of Throats from Fr Christopher Vipers, the parish priest.

Doors open at 10am for a start at 10:30am. The day concludes with the ceremony of enrolment for new members, if there are any, at 3:30pm; we depart at 4pm. We have a break for lunch.

The Guild of St Clare's Vestment Mending Days take place in the basement of St Mary Moorfields at the same time as the training in the church. Adults accompanying children to the training are welcome to meet the Guild and join their activities: there are things for people of all levels of sewing experience to do. November training day

We welcomed 19 trainees and five instructors to St Mary Moorfields, and enrolled eight of them into the Society. To make space for this we set up three makeshift altars, in addition to the two real ones there are in this church. 

We were joined by a visiting Polish priest, Fr Orpheus, who did the enrollments.

The Guild of St Clare's parallel event was also very well attended, and was able to do some repairs for the parish priest, Fr Christopher Vipers, to begin the repair of the impressive 1939 banner belonging to the Catholic Police Guild, and continue many ongoing projects.

September Training Day

Following the record number of trainee servers we had in June--24--we had a good number last Saturday, of 14 plus four instructors. They came from as far as St Bede's, Clapham Park, Chislehurst, and... Poland. It is interesting to note that while a number of people come for training in Low Mass, many also come for instruction in the different roles of Sung Mass, from places where there is Sung Mass every Sunday. This time we also had a group wanting to go through Benediction.

Four of the trainees were enrolled into the Society.

The Guild of St Clare also had lots of volunteers to help mend vestments, and had a very productive day.

Medals seen in the wild: in Switzerland!

Two members of the Society of St Tarcisius served a First Mass of a newly ordained priest of the Fraternity of St Peter, Fr Andreas Brem, in Switzerland. The young men are in fact the priest's nephews.

The ordination had taken place at the Abbey of Ottobeuren, with nine other FSSP seminarians.

June server training and enrollments

Today we had the largest number of trainees we have ever had, at 22. I was actually too busy to take

photos, though I did get one of the enrollment, of three new members, including a father and son. The son became a Junior MC, while the father was enrolled as a Junior Acolyte.

The training took place in St Mary Moorfields, and the enrollments were done by the parish priest Fr Christopher Vipers.
