February Server Training and Enrollments

Thanks very much to our instructors and to Fr Michael Cullinan who enrolled the four new members. Two others were promoted.

The previous weekend nine enrolments and three promotions had taken place at St Bede's, Clapham Park, done by Fr Marcus Holden the Parish Priest. Congratulations to all our new members!

Servers' Dialogue videos

The Latin Mass Society is pleased to present this set of short videos giving the texts with which those learning to serve the Traditional Mass need to familiarise themselves, setting the written text alongside an audio recording. 

The Collect, Epistle, and Gospel used are taken from the Votive Mass of Our Lady used 'per annum.' 

In these videos the texts are said as slowly and distinctively as possible, to assist servers and others unsure of the principles of Ecclesiastical Latin pronunciation. In Mass these texts should be said in a more flowing way. 

The texts are taken from parts of the Mass where the server has to make responses; there are separate videos for different parts of the Mass. Links to all the videos can be found under the Resources tab here.

We would like to thank Fr John Saward, Priest in Charge of SS Gregory & Augustine's for his assistance with these. The responses were made by Joseph Shaw, Chairman of the Latin Mass Society.

 

Server Training Dates for 2023

Enrollments into the Society of St Tarcisius in St Mary Moorfields, Nov 2022

We are delighted to announce three server training dates for 2023.

All these events are accompanied by vestment-mending days with the Guild of St Clare: see their website.

Saturday 18th February, in St Mary Moorfields, 10am for 10:30 (on the venue; booking page)

Saturday 22nd April in St Dominic’s Haverstock Hill, 10:30 for 11am (on the venue; booking page)

Saturday 17th June , in St Mary Moorfields, 10am for 10:30 (on the venue; booking page)

Server Training at St Mary Moorfields

Ten trainee servers came to St Mary Moorfields for our training day, with four instructors, at the end of which Fr John Scott of Westminster Cathedral enrolled six new members into the Society of St Tarcisius.

As usual the Guild of St Clare had vestment-mending in the basement at the same time. Vreni Windsor, who attended, is the head of the London Chapter of the Guild, and also mother of one of the instructors and three of the new members.

Server Training in St Dominic's Haverstock Hill

A lovely day, last Saturday, alongside the Guild of St Clare. Thanks to Fr Lawrence Lew for the use of the beautiful church and our volunteer instructors. 

Oxford training day: Sat 10th September

This has been arranged in Holy Rood, Abingdon Road, Oxford OX1 4LD (click for a map).

The church is a short distance south of Folly Bridge, on the left as you go south. It has its own car park.

We plan to have some vestment mending in the parish room at the same time with the Guild of St Clare.

10 for 10:30, to start, concluding st about 3:30pm. Bring a sandwich for lunch. We'll have the use of a kitchenette.

All levels of experience welcomed. We will cover what those attending would like to cover: Low or Sung Mass, specific roles, pronunciation, and so on.

London Training Days for the Autumn: 24 Sept and Nov 19

 We have arranged two training days for the latter part of the year.

Saturday 24th September, in St Dominic's, Haverstock Hill

10:30 for 11am until about 3:30pm.

On this occasion, and for the first time with the Society of St Tarcisius, there will be an opportunity for training in the Dominican Rite as well as the Roman Rite.

The Dominican Rite is slightly but importantly different, for the server, at Low Mass, and these differences are more extensive at Sung and High Masses.

You will be able to specify whether you would like to learn the Dominican or Roman Rite when booking. Those proficient in either will be eligible for enrollment in the Society at the appropriate level.
